Loving Ft Smith, Arkansas

The Clayton House

Planning a trip to Ft. Smith is an almost certain guarantee of a great experience. The history ranges from the frontier days, an historic fort, and "Hangin-Judge" Parker to the end-point of the Trail of Tears, the red-light district, and beautiful Victorian homes such as the Clayton House.

First established as a fort in 1817, Ft. Smith is now a city filled with energy and pride in its past, present and future.

of the 1960s

Today we visited the site of the original fort, the Clayton House Museum (www.claytonhouse.org), and the office of the future US Marshals Museum (www.usmarshalsmuseum.org). Since I have always associated US Marshals with John Wayne and cowboy movies, I was amazed at the part the marshals have played throughout our history. I will be featuring them in a future post.
Bricktown Brewery

We ate well - Bricktown Brewery (www.bricktownbrewery.com) for lunch and Doe's Eat Place (www.doesfortsmith.com) for dinner.

We plan to discover more tomorrow and I will be sharing in future posts.
In the meantime, check out their websites.
